Corbett Reportedly Supports Beefed Up Transportation Funding Bill

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - The secretary of PennDOT says Governor Corbett would be willing to support a Senate transportation funding proposal that goes well beyond what he's proposed.

The Senate passed the transportation funding bill last week and the House Transportation Committee began a series of hearings on the bill yesterday. The conventional wisdom is that the House won't go as high as the Senate, and Governor Corbett has said he expects any bill that gets to his desk will be trimmed.

But after the hearing Wednesday, Transportation Secretary Barry Schoch said the governor is prepared to support the Senate bill.

"He's willing to go as high as Senate Bill 1. He has not said there's a floor or a ceiling."

In addition to transportation, Governor Corbett continues to push for action on liquor privatization and pension reform before lawmakers wrap up work on a budget and leave for the summer. The state House passed a budget bill yesterday and sent it to the Senate even though a final budget is still being negotiated by Corbett and legislative leaders.
