Egg Harbor Man Accused Of Impersonating Police Officer, Kidnapping And Sexually Assaulting 8 Women

MAYS LANDING, NJ (CBS) – The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says an Egg Harbor Township man has been indicted for impersonating a police officer and kidnapping and sexually assaulting at least eight women in Atlantic City.

Hiten Patel, 34, of Ridge Avenue, was arrested on August 2, 2012 by Atlantic City police after he posed as a police officer, ordered a 21-year-old woman into his van and then sexually assaulted her.

Following Patel's arrest, Atlantic City Police Detectives and the FBI investigated previous reports of sexual assault in Atlantic City and charged Patel with several other attacks.

Patel is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, criminal restraint, attempted sexual assault, possession of an imitation firearm, impersonation of a law enforcement officer, attempted robbery, terroristic threats and luring.

Officials are investigating the possibility that Patel had other victims and urge anyone with information to call the Prosecutor's Office at 609-909- 7800 or the Atlantic City Police Department Detective Bureau at 609-347-5766.
