Charges Filed In Boston Against Pa. Bus Driver
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts officials are filing criminal and civil charges against a driver whose bus crashed into a highway overpass in Boston, injuring 35 high school students and chaperones returning to the Philadelphia area from a trip to Harvard University.
Most of the injuries in the Feb. 2 crash were minor, but a handful were serious — including a teenager with severe injuries.
Massachusetts State Police said in a statement released Tuesday that Samuel Jackson of Philadelphia faces several charges, including a criminal count of operating negligently to endanger. The 66-year-old also faces civil violations of failing to obey a sign banning buses from the Department of Conservation and Recreation roadway.
Police say Jackson did not slow down as his Calvary Coach bus tried to go under the 10-foot-high overpass. He could not be immediately reached for comment.
