Tom Knox Won't Run For Pa. Governor, Considering Another Phila. Mayoral Run

By Tony Romeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia businessman Tom Knox has decided not to run for governor, and is instead turning his focus to another possible campaign for mayor.

In a statement released this morning, Democrat Knox says he's "making it clear" that he will not be a candidate for governor but is instead "seriously considering" a run for mayor of Philadelphia.

Franklin and Marshall College political analyst Terry Madonna says he already counts ten prospective Democratic candidates for governor and believes Knox's decision will have little impact on that primary race.

"Whether one person gets out or not probably makes very little difference," Madonna tells KYW Newsradio.  "Knox was not a top-tier candidate in the minds of most analysts anyway.  (And) there's a plethora of people running from the southeast already."

But Madonna says that with his connections and past experience running for the office, Knox would be much more likely to have a bigger impact on the next race for mayor.
