Atlantic City Man Sentenced For Killing Infant Daughter

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors say a southern New Jersey man who admitted his role in the death of his infant daughter has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Telly Burns of Atlantic City pleaded guilty last month to reckless manslaughter, admitting that he failed to get medical attention for the 19-week-old child after he dropped her and she struck her head on a radiator in April 2011.

When the girl was finally taken to the hospital, doctors determined she had four fractures to her skull, bleeding on her brain and a depressed skull. She was put on life support, but died a few days later.

In handing down the sentence Friday, a state judge noted that an autopsy found the infant had suffered multiple unrelated rib and skull fractures that were healing.
