Area Residents Get One Last Peek At The Philadelphia Flower Show

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society wrote "30" on this year's edition of the Flower Show and it went out with a bang.

Irish singer Keith Harkin provided live entertainment to complement the floral displays. They had to last an extra day this year since the show was lengthened to eight days.

Kelly, visiting from Villanova was impressed, "Everything's still beautiful, which is amazing."

Horticultural Society spokesman Alan Jaffe says the extra day wasn't the only challenge this year. "We had climatological challenges, this year, with the weather so the numbers weren't as good late in the week once the forecast started coming in."

Still, Jaffe says, the special events sold out and some of the new attractions were a big draw.

"One of the most popular attractions this year was the make and take room, so we had hundreds and hundreds of women coming in and making their own little stylish hats."
