Montgomery County Boy's Invention Makes Snow Cleanup Easier

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Cleaning off the snow and ice from your car can be a burden this time of year.  But, to make your winter weather cleanup a little easier, a six-year-old Montgomery County boy has an invention for you.

It was an international competition, the ePals/Smithsonian Invent It! Challenge. Kids had to come up with an invention to solve a real-life problem. One of the winners was six-year-old Sam Schneider, a first grader at Jarrettown Elementary in Dresher who came up with the "Turbo Skraper."

"I was just sitting in my car one day and my mom was scraping the window outside and she kept on saying, 'Oh, it's so cold out here!' And then I thought, 'I could make an invention that you could scrape the car window, inside the car.'"

The device is some piping pieced together to create an L-shape. On one end is a scraper, on the other end is a glove to keep your hand warm as you stay cozy in the car. For being one of the winners, Sam gets a Lego set and scholarship for a science camp which is perfect for what Sam wants to do when he grows up.

"An inventor so that I can make stuff to help people in the world."
