PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia district attorney's office has charged a 16-year veteran of the Philadelphia police force with aggravated assault and related crimes after an altercation with his wife last Wednesday.

Officer James Timms, 41, has now been suspended from the police force for 30 days, with intent to dismiss. He was being held on $100,000 bail.

Timms was arrested yesterday after an investigation by the police department's Internal Affairs unit and the DA's office.

The incident, on January 2nd, took place at the family home  in the 100 block of Manheim Street, in Germantown.  The DA's office says the altercation also involved the couple's daughter.
