Girl Says Former Philadelphia Police Inspector Leo Haley Tried To Abduct Her

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A little girl testifies and identifies the man she says grabbed her in her front yard in an alleged luring case in Roxborough last month. 72-year-old defendant, ordered held for trial, is a former Philadelphia police Inspector who retired in 1994 and has a sordid criminal history.

The 8-year-old girl has testified she was playing in her front yard at about 1:00 in the afternoon when Leo Haley pulled up in a black car, approached her and grabbed her by the clothing and throat, pulled her close to him and she claims he said "if you go in the house or tell or do anything like that I will kill you".

Then he fled in his car, but this sharp young girl watched, got most of the license number.

"She was able to identify the defendant from a Megan's law website that same evening," prosecutor Elizabeth Fischer said.

She went on the website with her mom and spotted him and identified him as the man. Haley, in custody now on a million dollars bail, pleaded guilty last year to child pornography charges and was sentenced to six to 23 months in prison.

He was on probation after serving the sentence. The defense suggested in court it will challenge the identification. Haley will be arraigned next month and he is expected to enter a plea of NOT guilty.
