Eagles Release Jason Babin

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Eagles have released defensive lineman Jason Babin, the team announced today.

Babin, 32 years-old, has 5.5 sacks in a disappointing 2011 season after recording 18 sacks and earning a Pro Bowl invitation in 2011. Babin signed with the Eagles in 2011 after the Eagles inked Jim Washburn to coach the defensive line. Babin had success with Washburn in Tennessee using the Wide-9 system. Babin also played in 12 games with the team in 2009, and recorded 2.5 sacks.

"We appreciate everything that Jason has given this team over the last couple of years," Andy Reid said in a statement. "We wish him all the best as he continues his career. By releasing him today, this gives us an opportunity to give more playing time to some of younger guys in the defensive line rotation."
