New Book Suggests Expanding Your Diet - Eat Aliens
By John Ostapkovich
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – As you sit down to your evening meal, maybe you're wishing for something a little different, although you may notice what's on the table qualifies as too different.
Invasive species are a known problem and author Jackson Landers, a professional hunter and locovore, has a solution: eat them.
"I've eaten the notorious Snakehead fish, the lion fish in the Caribbean, armored catfish, giant Canada goose, Chinese mystery snails," says Landers.
And, yes, some of them do taste like chicken.
Landers has written of his adventures in Eating Aliens but his motivation is more than expanding your diet. It's preventing the extinctions of native species.
"If you want to take a pond or a stretch of river and you say, I'm going to fish this property, hunt this property, pull up invasive plants, even if I can't get rid of invasive species everywhere else, I'm going to create a safe habitat for native species," Landers explains.
Landers says it's time to eradicate, not study, these tasty invaders.
