Alteva Shows Off Business Technology In New Streetside Location On Independence Mall

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Whether you're on the front lines of a business or run the place, you probably spend a lot of time on the phone and in front of a computer. Now, a Philadelphia firm has moved into new digs in the heart of Independence Mall to show off the latest ways to communicate with co-workers:

"If I put my mouse over him, I see he's on the phone right now," says Mike Timar.

Timar says Alteva's technology means you don't have to leave your desk. But when you do...

"If you're home, you can be on the exact same system," he says. "Completely seamless. From home, you can see all your co-workers, their status. One click, you're chatting with them; one more click, you're video chatting; one more click, they're seeing your desktop."

Timar, the vice president of product management and development with WVT Communications, Alteva's parent company, says they do what's called cloud-based unified communications -- a way to improve efficiency in a workplace through desk and cell phones, computers, and tablets.

"A complete integration of voice communication services along with email, calendar, chat, video," says David Cuthbert, WVT's president and COO. "It brings all those communications components into a singular solution."

Cuthbert says businesses are invited to go hands-on with the gear in their new headquarters, at street level on the northeast corner of 5th and Market Streets.

"We can bring people in here and show them the efficiencies they can gain and apply to their own businesses in a really practical way," he says.
