SEPTA Hires New Transit Police Chief
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- SEPTA has hired a new Chief of Police.
According to SEPTA, Thomas Nestell III will join the SEPTA organization as Chief of Police on Monday, August 20.
Nestell was formerly Chief of Police of Upper Moreland Township but will now head the SEPTA Transit Police Department.
Nestell, who is a fourth generation police officer, actually began his career in law enforcement as a patrol officer with the SEPTA Transit Police in 1982.
He later joined the Philadelphia Police Department, where he served for more than 22 years in a number of different districts.
He has earned 24 commendations for Merit, Heroism and Bravery during his service.
