Police Seek Suspect in Violent Germantown Break-In

By Michelle Durham

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate a home invasion on Thursday night in which an elderly woman was assaulted in her Wayne Avenue apartment.

According to Capt. John Darby of the department's Special Victims Unit, the woman awoke to the sight of a strange man in her second-floor apartment in the 5600 block of Wayne Avenue.  And then, Darby says, the incident turned violent.

"The 78-year-old woman is repeatedly assaulted inside her apartment. The male then fled the residence with an undisclosed amount of currency as well as a money order," Darby says.

The man is described as a clean-shaven Hispanic male in his mid-20s, about 5' 7" tall and 150 pounds.   He was wearing tan shorts and a short-sleeve dress shirt.

Authorities believe he entered through an unlocked door.  Anyone with information is asked to call Philadelphia Police.
