Raccoon Tests Positive For Rabies In Newark

NEWARK, Del. (AP) — Public health officials in Delaware say a raccoon recently found in Newark has tested positive for rabies.

Health officials made the announcement Friday and said no one was bitten by the animal. One person was suspected of having come into contact with the animal and will get a series of four vaccinations.

Health officials say the raccoon is the fifth animal that has tested positive for the disease this year. That's one shy of the number of animals that tested positive for the disease in 2011.

Health officials say people should not feed or approach wild or stray animals because they may be infected.
