Delaware Teacher Arrested And Charged After 'Plucking' Student In The Mouth

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – A Delaware teacher has been arrested and charged with assaulting a student last month.

The incident occurred on Monday, April 16th around 9:25 a.m. at Kirk Middle School in Newark, Delaware. A 13-year-old male student was inside of a school classroom when a female teacher walked into the room. The student made a comment about the teacher, which was overheard by another teacher, 38-year-old Iris Saunders. When Saunders told the student to apologize and he refused, Saunders "plucked" the victim in the mouth with her finger, causing a minor injury. The victim was treated by the school nurse.

An investigation into the incident began on Friday, April 27, 2012 when a police officer on-duty at the middle school was informed about what happened.

Iris Saunders, of Bear, is charged with Disorderly Conduct and Assault in the 3rd Degree.
