A Pathway To Cancer Research

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - According to a report in the journal Nature, scientists are getting closer to figuring out pathways that help cancer cells grow and divide. It is called the LKB1-AMPK pathway, and it leads to prolonged tumour cell survival.

The most important part of the research is the fact that the scientists have been able to see how the tumor cells over came stress. This is particularly important because not only will this help in the battle against cancer but it is also extremely helpful in finding ways to help healthy cells survive.

Think about it -- finding ways to kill cancer cells while strengthening the ones that protect us.
