Suspect Sought For Rape In Upper Darby

By Molly Daly

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities in Upper Darby are seeking help from the public in finding the man who raped a young woman January 17th.

"As far as I'm concerned he's an animal, and what he did to this young lady is unconscionable."

Upper Darby Police superintendent Michael Chitwood says the rapist struck in an alley in the 500 block of Wiltshire Road.

"The 19-year-old young lady was going from a friend's house to her home, and she took a shortcut."

Police say the suspect, a dark-skinned black man in his 20s, tried to rob the woman at gunpoint, but she had no money.

Instead, he sexually assaulted her, and at one point, threatened to kill her if she looked up at him. But she got a good enough look for police to produce a composite of the goateed man in a knit cap:

"Five-seven, five-eight, about a hundred and twenty-five, a hundred and thirty pounds."

Anyone with information is asked to call Upper Darby police at 610-734-7677.
