Bernard Hopkins Celebrates His 47th Birthday With His Doppelganger

By Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia's own Bernard Hopkins celebrated his birthday, Tuesday, with a figure that bears a striking resemblance to the light heavyweight champ.

Inside Joe Hands Gym, Bernard Hopkins held up a birthday cake alongside his life-size wax twin, dressed in full boxing regalia. The figure is a gift from Ripley's Believe It or Not.

"What makes Bernard the believe it or not is being 47 years old and still a champion," says Ripley's lead production artist Bruce Miller.

Hopkins made history last May when he captured the light heavyweight title at the age of 46.

He plans to give the figure to the Philadelphia Wax Museum. "I'm donating it to them because I want kids to understand that when they go to the Wax Museum, I believe on Broad Street, that they'd be able to see and understand that I can from North Philly. I came from Germantown. So you got a real live body that might inspire somebody."
