FBI: No Cause For Alarm After Evacuations In Burlington City

BURLINGTON CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- FBI officials forced several neighbors from their homes around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

It happened in 400 block of Independence Drive in the Columbus Park neighborhood of Burlington City, New Jersey.

"My understanding is there was a car stopped with a bomb," said Rose Stewart, who lives nearby.

Officials would not confirm claims made by neighbors that someone had a bomb.

Special Agent Bryan L. Travers of the FBI's Public Affairs Office released the following statement:

Pursuant to information obtained through the course of an investigation, the FBI was conducting operations in Burlington County, NJ (in the vicinity of Independence and Columbus Avenue and Route 130). In the interest of public safety, homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure. However, the investigation has determined there is no imminent threat and no cause for alarm. Our operations have concluded and no further details will be provided at this time.
