Dogs Rescued In Hoarding Case Available For Adoption

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Dozens of dogs seized by the PSCPA after being discovered by Philadelphia police in filthy conditions (see related story) are now available for adoption.

The dogs were evaluated by Pennsylvania SCPA staffers and, in spite of the terrible conditions, were found to be in such good shape they can be adopted immediately.

"Most of them are doing very well," says President and CEO Susan Cosby. "We have a number of them who are already available for adoption, but there are some that we will be working with for a little bit, but the best thing for most of these dogs is getting into a home and getting a loving family."

Cosby says they all have wonderful personalities.

"They're dogs that are going to do best in a home where people are going to be able to help them adapt to life living with people in a home. They're dogs who were many times in conditions where we find a lot of animals; they've been raised without a whole lot of social contact, so they do have some behavioral challenges sometimes, but these guys look like a really good bunch."

And she thinks they will make some families very happy.

Cosby says if you'd like to adopt the adult dogs, you can come down to the shelter on Erie Avenue, take a look at them, start the application process and pay the adoption fee. There a variety of breeds, including a Husky, Chow, Pomeranians and a mix of other smaller dogs.
