Performance-Based Restaurant In Center City Holds Auditions For New Staffers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Center City restaurant is auditioning for staff members who will be hired based on their singing voices.

The Walnut Street Supper Club is not your typical restaurant. General Manager James McManamann says auditions are Tuesday and Wednesday at the Holiday Inn express from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

"We're gonna be auditioning for waiters, waitresses, busboys, hostesses and cooks -- and auditioning because they're all gonna be singers."

He says the staff will be taught new songs weekly for dinner performances.

"It's gonna be so fun, it really happens kind of calculated. Like the musical director will play a couple of notes to a song that I'm singing.  I'll hear that cue and know he wants me to sing.  Then I'll give in a 'yes' or a 'no' because he's seen that I've just served a big table so I've got to spend three minutes singing. Then someone else will come up and there will be a singalong and a little slapstick and it's a real show but its all orchestrated."
