Those Left Unemployed Due To Tropical Storm Lee May Be Eligible For State Assistance

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you have been left jobless because of the storms which struck eastern Pennsylvania in early September, you may be able to get unemployment assistance through the state.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry has set October 27th as the deadline for state residents in seven counties to apply for unemployment compensation if they lost their job because of Tropical Storm Lee.

The storm hit Pennsylvania hard on September 8th and 9th. Sean Yeakle is spokesman for the state Labor and Industry department:

"It's intended to help individuals who are not eligible for benefits under the regular unemployment compensation program and who were unemployed as a result of Tropical Storm Lee."

The counties covered under this assistance program are Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia, Berks and Northampton. Anyone who worked in those counties and cannot work now because of the storm may be eligible for 26 weeks of assistance. The number to call is 877-345-3382.
