3rd Ex-Officer Gets 16 Years In Philadelphia Drug Scheme

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A former Philadelphia police officer has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a heroin scheme that brought down two other officers.

Mark Williams, 28, of Philadelphia, agreed to steal heroin from a drug dealer after a phony arrest. The group planned to sell the heroin to a supposed dealer, but were instead arrested by the undercover federal agent.

Former Officer Robert Snyder, who orchestrated the plot with his wife, is serving 13 years while Christal Snyder is serving 10-1/2 years. She passed information between the officers and a drug dealer her sister was dating.

Former partner James Venziale testified against Williams at trial this year and is serving three-and-a-half years.

Defense lawyer Joseph Valvo did not immediately return a message.
