NE Philly Store Temporarily Stiffed On Season's Hottest Eagles Jersey
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A local sporting goods store was hoping to make a big splash with the unveiling of new Eagles jerseys today. However, a supply chain foul-up forced the store to tell its adult customers to come back later.
Namdi Asomugha was the biggest catch of the 2011 free agent class, so managers and employees at Modell's sporting goods store on Cottman Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia were anticipating a surge of first-day customers for his Eagles jersey.
But when the UPS truck arrived in the morning, all anyone could find with Asomugha's name and #24 on the back were kids' sizes. Someone at merchandise supplier Reebok apparently forgot or neglected to ship out the adult sizes.
Kevin Milke, 21, had travelled all the way from West Chester, Pa. to get his hands on one.
"Yeah, I want one right away," he said. "Actually, me and my dad are trying to get one. He's the man -- gonna help us out a lot. Gonna help us get that ring this year."
So, was Milke disappointed?
"Nah -- I know they're coming. They'll be here soon. Next couple days, I'm sure they'll have them here and I'll get one."
The unveiling may have been a bust, but it's a long season and merchandisers are banking on Asomugha to ring their cash registers.
