Career Fair In Coatesville Designed To Get Vets Back In Workforce

COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) - Veterans in the job market may want to check out a career fair in Chester County later this week where more than thirty area companies will be on hand looking for employees.

The latest report on jobs shows the unemployment rate at 9.1-percent but those numbers are higher for veterans. When they return from overseas they find themselves competing with others who have already been in the work force.

On Friday, June 10 the Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center will hold a career fair from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Director Gary Devansky says veterans bring a lot to the table.

"(They have) qualities like leadership, adaptability, maturity and a lot of them have had some great training in the military especially in advanced technical areas," Devansky said.

Devansky says veterans should come prepared with resumes,  and a lot of questions. Some employers, he says, will even conduct interviews right on the spot. The center is located at 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road in Coatesville.
