Former Athletic Head At AB Carroll H.S. Heads To Trial On Underage Sex Charges

RADNOR, Pa. (CBS) - The former athletic director at Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor will stand trial in Montgomery County on charges that he used Facebook to try to initiate a sexual relationship with a former student.

In a brief court appearance for Francis Murphy in front of magisterial district judge James Gallagher in Bridgeport, 39-year-old Francis Murphy of Bryn Mawr waived his preliminary hearing.

"The defendant waived charges so that the case is headed to the Court of Common Pleas, where we will proceed with the prosecution and look to get a conviction," says Montgomery County prosecutor Samantha Cauffman.

Murphy faces several charges including unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of a minor.

Prosecutors say the former student contacted Murphy about cleaning out his locker after he left the school for financial reasons but Murphy turned the conversation sexual.

Police assumed the boy's online identity and arrested Murphy when he showed up expecting to meet the boy.

Murphy remains free on bail.
