Photo Exhibit At UArts Explores Gender Concepts Through Portraits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A thoughtful exhibit has opened at the University of the Arts, on South Broad Street in Philadephia: an examination of gender identity through portraits of transgendered men.

"Transportraits" is a series of photographs by Lorenzo Triburgo, an artist from Portland, Oregon who, as a transgendered man, wanted to examine the concept that there are more than two genders.

His subjects are transgendered men.  They all look different, but one thing that they have in common: they have been photographed in front of landscapes.

"They represent my ideas about gender being a social construct, rather than something seeded in nature," Triburgo explained today.

Transportraits will be on display on the 14th floor of the University of the Arts building at 211 South Broad Street ("Avenue of the Arts") through Sunday, in collaboration with Equality Forum, the weeklong global conference of the LGBT community.
