Public Arts Project In Manayunk To Be Unveiled In June

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Manayunk district and the mural arts project are joining in a public art project that will be unveiled in June.

The Mural Arts Program has chosen Manayunk as a public arts district - where all different kinds of art - from murals to light and sound shows to sculptures will be displayed this summer.

Two major public art projects are planned; a roving gallery of art panels to be placed along major streets and street medallions that will be painted at key intersections along Main Street.

Jane Lipton, executive director of the Manayunk Development Corporation, says the idea is for visitors, "[to] seek out Manayunk, not only as a great place to have a dinner, or live, or shop or play and recreate, but to actually get up close to public art projects.

The new projects will be unveiled at the 22nd annual Manayunk Arts Festival June 25th.
