Police: Officer Punched Estranged Wife Inside Mayfair Bar

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia police officer has been suspended after he allegedly punched his estranged wife in the face inside a bar.

Officer James Graber Jr. was arrested Tuesday in connection to the incident that allegedly happened February 19 inside a bar on Frankford Avenue in Mayfair.

According to police, Graber Jr., who was off-duty, engaged in a verbal disturbance with his estranged wife inside the bar. Graber Jr. was escorted from the establishment by security at the bar. However, police say he returned to the bar later on and punched his wife in the face.

After an investigation by the Department's Internal Affairs Bureau and the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, Graber Jr. was charged with Simple Assault and Reckless Endangering another Person.

Graber Jr., 36, is an 11 year veteran of the Police Department and was assigned to the Bomb Disposal Unit.

He has been suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss.
