Man Held In Connection With Fatal Hit And Run

CHELTENHAM, PA (CBS) -- There's new information regarding last week's deadly hit and run crash in Cheltenham Township that claimed the life of a 53-year-old Philadelphia woman who was on her way home after leaving work at the Cedarbrook Mall.

According to court documents, a 24-year-old Philadelphia man is behind bars in Montgomery County on charges that include lying to police and drug possession.

According to a criminal complaint, Cheltenham police were able to track the license plate of the car that they believe struck 53-year-old Michelle Powell as she was crossing Cheltenham Avenue near Easton Road last Thursday night to a car dealer in North Philadelphia.

The complaint reveals that George Humphrey showed up at police headquarters over the weekend to say he sold the car to a man in New Jersey, but the documents show his girlfriend told police that he asked her to help him ditch the car.

Police and the district attorney were not available for comment, but the court papers indicated that police believe Humphrey may be lying to them to conceal his involvement in the hit and run.

He's is being held on 150-thousand dollars bail.
