Small Local College Basketball Spotlight: Gwynedd-Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. (CBS) -- In local Division III college basketball, Gwynedd-Mercy College is off to a fine start, sitting at 6-2 on the season.

Head coach John Baron (right) talks about what has been working:

"Our best offense is our transition. We practice it every single day. Get out and get the ball out of the net when the other team scores, and we try and get it down as fast as we can. So we spread the floor pretty well. I think transition offense is definitely a positive thing for us."

Gwynedd Mercy utilizes a balanced attack, with four players averaging double-figure points. And Coach Baron says that is a good thing.

"There are two more (players) at eight or nine points," he told KYW Newsradio, "so it's hard for other teams to game plan. (Senior forward) Jon Hogga is our best player, and he is the one that everyone knows about and I think that everyone tries to guard against."

Hogga is actually third on the team in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per contest.

Senior guard Jon Crabtree is the squad's high scorer, at 15.6 points per game.
