PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Residents in an Olney neighborhood are celebrating and planning their next step after winning Philadelphia’s clean block contest.

Block captain Evelyn Harvey still hasn’t come down yet from the announcement that her block – the 6100 block of North Franklin Street – has been named the winner of Philadelphia’s Clean Block Contest.

The block is beautiful, with immaculate row homes and neat gardens, a community garden in nearby Fisher Park and a diverse community that includes residents from three months to 97 years old.

But Harvey says it’s more than that by using last winter’s fire as an example, “The neighbors came out and gave them blankets and see what they could do to help. It is the Franklin Street family. That’s what we are. We watch out for each other.”

The block wins $1000 dollars that residents will use for solar lighting, sidewalk upgrades and scholarships.
