Kimmel Center Presents South Pacific

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Broadway's Tony Award winning hit South Pacific is hitting the road, and making a Thanksgiving stop at the Academy of Music.

Radio report:

Matt Wolf, vice president of programming for the Kimmel Center, says, "It is quite a magical production. It's big, it's beautiful, and I think that it really honors the way that Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote this musical."

He adds that the show was well ahead of its time in 1949.

"It's really withstood the test of time," he said. "It's a story about love, about prejudice. This production of South Pacific was one of the most incredibly memorable theatre experiences I've ever had."

Opening night is Tuesday, November 23rd, and the show runs through Sunday the 28th. Tickets are available at www.kimmelcenter.org/events.
