Home Video Report: The Sound of Music Re-Released
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Our home video list for this week contains a fascinating mix.
There's a long-awaited re-release of The Sound of Music (above), Robert Wise's 1965 film of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical -- very impressive in a new Blu-ray edition, along with a standard treatment.
Blu-ray also has a treatment of The Bridge on The River Kwai, along with a standard DVD as well.
There's a 10-part series of the HBO's "The Pacific," which follows the fortunes of three US Marines in World War II. Also out: Toy Story 3, the animated feature starring the voice of Tom Hanks.
The movie Antichrist features Willem Defoe in an impressive psychodrama following the accidental death of his son. Blu-ray has its own version.
Then, there's a massive 18-disk DVD gift set of the films of Elia Kazan, with such gems as A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, On The Waterfront, and Baby Doll -- plus five films never before released to DVD.
Also out on DVD is Love Ranch, starring Helen Mirren, Joe Pesci, and Gina Gershon, a fictionalized account of the construction of the first legalized brothel in the state of Nevada.
