Connection Between Jaundice And Autism?

(CBS) - Jaundice is fairly common in newborns.  In fact, mild jaundice can cause a yellow tint to skin.  It basically signals the newborn is not fully mature.

In most cases, if it doesnt get out of control, it doesn't cause serious problems. A new report, a danish study, surveyed 7,000 children who had jaundice.

Referring to this study, the researchers conclude there could be a link between mild jaundice and autism. The study showed that among other autisitc children nine percent had jaundice when born compared to three percent of other children.

Those looking at the study find it interesting, but don't see it as a definite link.  In fact, they are telling parents not to be concerned their jaundice child will be autisitic.

What they are seeing is an association that will have to be followed up over time.
