First Suspect Cleared, New Suspect Arrested In Haverford Hit-Run

HAVERTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - Police in Haverford, Pa. are dropping charges against a West Philadelphia man they initially implicated in Wednesday's crash that killed a Villanova University student and injured another.

Now, police have arrested a second man, and the first suspect was released from jail.

Haverford Township police now say Kenneth Woods (right) was not behind the wheel of the stolen Land Rover that crashed into the Villanova students, and police are dropping charges against him.

Police say 28-year-old Donnie Sayers of Bryn Mawr (top photo) called them on Thursday night and admitted to driving the stolen SUV. He turned himself in a short time later.

"Sayers confessed to police that he drove around Philadelphia with his friend Kenny Woods in the stolen Land Rover. But he departed the city alone after Sayers drank some beer and smoked PCP prior to the crash," Haverford Township Police Chief Carmen Pettine said.

Authorities say the cell phone recovered from the SUV belonged to Sayers, but could not say whether the picture in the phone they thought was of Woods was actually Sayers.

Sayers is facing multiple charges, including third degree homicide and vehicular homicide.

Woods' godfather, Robert Herdelin, told reporters that Woods lost his job at McDonald's because of his arrest. Woods said he was not angry, but he just wanted to move on with his life.
