New Area Catholic High School Surpasses Enrollment Goal

This is roster day at the new Pope John Paul II high school near Royersford, Pa. (Montgomery County). It's one more milestone in the march toward its grand opening September 10th.

KYW's John Ostapkovich reports that the school is already a hit, with 50 more enrolled students than its goal of 850. It replaces two older Catholic high schools and is, says president Fr. Alan Okon, a school for the 21st Century:

"We have a gigabyte to the desktop for each of the computers. Every student coming into this building will be issued a netbook. The faculty will be working with their own laptops. Every classroom is specced out with a sound system, projector, white board, smart board."

But the school's soul, if you will, is drawn around the charisma, or traits, of its namesake:

"So we're able to take all those different areas and incorporate the life of John Paul II, his spirituality, his gifts, his personality, into those programs, into the life of our student."

And give each the tools to reach his or her potential.
