After a long and exciting night celebrating New Year’s Eve in Philadelphia, a casual, unhurried brunch on New Year’s Day 2014 is a great way to chill. Many restaurants, taverns and bars will be open Wednesday, January 1, 2014, and each venue offers its own classic brunch fare.

Bridget Foy’s will serve its regular brunch menu on New Year’s Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Menu offerings include whole wheat buttermilk pancakes, apple French toast, breakfast flatbreads, omelets, short rib hash, crab burrito, various egg choices including eggs benedict, country sausage benedict, soups, burgers, salads and more.

Hawthornes Cafe will be serving its weekend brunch from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year’s Day, which includes eggs served to order, quesadillas, Welsh rarebit, fried chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, French toast, funnel cake French toast, bagels and breakfast sandwiches, to name but a few of the menu offerings. Its sister restaurant, the Cambridge, located at 15th and South streets, will be serving brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The menu will include items such as duck egg hash, prosciutto and eggs and pork belly sliders.

New Year’s Day is pajama day at the Hinge. Serving breakfast and brunch from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the menu includes selections such as chicken cordon bleu skillet, Limoncello French toast, duck salad, loafer skillet, crab cake benedict, eggs to order, omelets, bruschetta, quesadillas, pancakes, waffles, cream chipped beef and more.

One Shot Coffee & Cafe will be serving its “famous Sunday Brunch” on New Year’s Day in its lounge. Some of the items on the brunch menu include made-to-order Belgian waffles, omelets and pancakes with sausage, bacon, country-style potatoes with parsley and scallions. Other offerings include salads, chicken liver mousse with French bread, Italian meats, sushi and artisan cheeses with fresh fruit. Or try entrees including rack of lamb, tenderloin beef Wellington with wild mushroom duxelle and a brandy peppercorn sauce.

White Dog Cafe, in Wayne, will continue a 30-year New Year’s Day tradition, serving its pajama brunch (staff and guests wear pajamas) from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The featured menu is the a la carte brunch menu, with bottomless mimosa/sangria/greyhound/bloody Mary selections. Brunch menu offerings include antipasti, seafood platter, local artisan cheese, Kennett Square mushroom soup, Lancaster pumpkin-apple bisque, river and Glen oysters, Maryland lump crab sliders, omelets, salads, wraps, eggs, sausage and more.
