Top Spots For New Year's Day Brunch 2015 In Philadelphia

With the Mummers Parade on New Year's Day and countless parties the night before, downtown Philadelphia is a prime spot for celebrating the New Year. Come January 1, you might find yourself in need of some hangover-curing grub or you just want to get together with your favorite people to talk about the night before and your plans for the year ahead. Brunch is the answer. CBS Philly reported on the best Philadelphia spots for New Year's Day brunch last year, and here's the updated list for 2015.

A South Street staple, Bridget Foy's will be serving a special holiday version of its popular Sunday brunch. Enjoy a mixture of breakfast and lunch favorites like pancakes, omelettes, burgers, salads as well as a few seasonal additions. And if you're still in the celebrating mood, share a pitcher of Bridget Foy's signature blood orange bellini.

Inspired by the cuisine of Mexico City, this casual Graduate Hospital diner will be serving burritos, omelettes, breakfast nachos and more. If you haven't stopped in to try the new menu at Cuba Libre yet, New Year's Day is the time to do it. Executive Chef Jennifer Salhoff joined Cuba Libre this past fall, working under the direction of Chef-Partner Guillermo Pernot. While there are still plenty of old customer favorites on the menu, additions like the cinnamon waffle with sliced bananas and citrus-infused maple syrup just might make your new must-have list. On New Year's Day, a hybrid brunch/lunch menu will be offered featuring breakfast tapas and a selection of lunch dishes.

A good Philly cheesesteak is perfect for those hangover cravings. Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop will be offering its steak and eggs special on New Year's Day as the ideal post-party meal. Top a classic cheesesteak with either scrambled or fried eggs. Pair it with a thick handmade shake available in a variety of flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, black and white or mint chocolate chip. Joe's will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The relaxed atmosphere and extended holiday brunch menu offered from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. makes this Fairmount favorite a great spot for those getting a late start after a night out. The a la carte menu will feature a selection of salads, sandwiches, burgers, omelets and more – all done with a few bold touches that London Grill is known for. If you need a little something extra to perk you up, go for the famous make-your-own bloody mary bar. Prices vary depending on your shot of choice, but the standard will set you back $7.

After a night of celebrating, coffee and a cozy atmosphere is just what you need for a relaxing recovery day. The café will open at 7 a.m. with the kitchen opening at 8 a.m. for brunch. One Shot Coffee will be serving its seasonal winter brunch menu, house-made pastries including hot doughnuts and baby kronuts, and a few specials selected just for the holiday. Of course, there will also be plenty of Stumptown coffee to jumpstart your New Year.

The Plough & the Stars will be serving brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., so there's no need to get up early after your night of celebrating. The welcoming atmosphere and casual menu of comfort food makes it an ideal space for gathering with friends. You can look forward to the standard brunch menu with dishes like "The Plough Omelette" (Irish sausage, apples, pears and blue cheese), shepherd's pie, fish and chips and Irish-style eggs Benedict, along with a few special additions for the holiday.

REX 1516 will be serving its popular brunch (usually only available on weekends) on New Year's Day. With dishes like chicken and waffles Benedict, biscuits and gravy, and shrimp and grits, REX 1516 is the place to go for comforting, updated Southern cuisine. If you didn't get enough the night before, a special champagne cocktail menu will be offered for the occasion. "The French" features gin, syrup, lemon and sparkling wine.
