Many talented artists call the Philadelphia area home, and these top five restaurants and cafes support local artists by displaying their work inside -- and available for purchase.

Chapterhouse is located off Philly's famous South Street in Center City. This gallery cafe is a spacious establishment that offers organic fair-trade coffees and teas, smoothies, pastries and is very popular for its variety of vegan snacks. Free wireless is provided for those looking for a remote office for the day. The gallery cafe displays art by local artists throughout four rooms, and art installations change every three months. The art displayed is mostly paintings and mixed media in a variety of styles. Artists are hand-picked and asked to hang their work by the owners and their work is available for purchase while on display. Service at Chapterhouse is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting.

Visit Earth Bread + Brewery for excellent food and beer in the city's Mount Airy section. The restaurant is known for its specialty brewed beers and has a large following for its support of the local artist community. You can purchase the artwork that decorates the walls at any time. Installations rotate every two months and feature artists from the Northwest Artists Collective. Organic ingredients and sustainability are a top priority for Earth Bread + Brewery -- not only does the restaurant support local artists, it supports local farmers as well.

Phoenixville's Bridge Street is rich with artistic talent, and you can find some of the best local art on the walls of Artisans Gallery & Cafe. The Italian-inspired cafe offers scrumptious light cuisine, soup, homemade Italian pastries and robust espressos. The walls are adorned with art from the local Chester County art community, including paintings, pottery, photography and mixed media. All art is available to purchase. A new artist is featured at the cafe every first Friday of the month.

Benna's Cafe not only has amazing art by local artists on the walls but delicious bagel and baguette sandwiches on the menu. There are a variety of droolworthy sweets and a nice vegan selection on the menu as well. The friendly atmosphere makes this a great neighborhood cafe, and the art on the walls is reasonably priced, leading Benna's to be a favorite among the Passyunk community.
