PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A local coffee shop has been named America’s Best Coffee Shop by The Daily Meal.
The Daily Meal says the rated independent coffee shops and chains based on quality of coffee and food, customer service, atmosphere and uniqueness.
According to The Daily Meal, shop owners, coffee bloggers, roasters, educators and baristas were asked to nominate the shops they love.
After getting a list of almost 150 coffee shops from across the U.S., The Daily Meal narrowed it down to 33 shops and chains that they say change the way we drink coffee.
The Daily Meal named Ultimo Coffee, located at 1900 S. 15th Street, as the number one coffee shop because of its simplicity and love.
“We put a lot into what we do as far as coffee goes, but also service. It seemed to me that that was what was sort of at the top of their criteria. What made us stand out is that, as far as pretension is concerned, you don’t come in here and feel that we are pretentious or we are starring down our noses at our customers we make it a very open and welcoming coffee experience,” said Co-owner Aaron Ultimo.
Customer Anthony Smyrski likes Ultimo very much.
“I own a small graphic design business. I am able to enjoy sort of teh freedom to work remotely and this is where I come often to work,” Smyrski said as he was doing some work on his lap top.
Other local coffee shops that made the list include Joe the Art of Coffee at #9 and Town Hall Coffee Co., at #33.
