Malcolm Jenkins Foundation Raises Over $90,000

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Malcolm Jenkins doesn't like to parade around and scream from the mountain tops about all of the good works he does off the football field. It's not part of the Eagles' Pro Bowl safety's nature. What Jenkins is adamant about is he backs up what he says, and he's there at charity event when he says he'll be there, not some hollow gesture where he shakes a few hands, and then skips out the back door.

So it's no surprise that Jenkins, and his Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, raised more than $90,000 at the 3rd annual Blitz, Bow-Ties, and Bourbon fundraiser on October 24 at Union Trust in Philadelphia. Eagles' long snapper Jon Dorenbos was the host. Current and former Eagles attended the gala, and standing at the hub was Jenkins.

He's serious about this—and it shows.

The Malcolm Jenkins Foundations' youth programs and initiatives in the Greater Philadelphia area include a week long summer camp for middle schoolers (grades 5-8) called by its acronym S.T.E.A.M., which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Athletics, and Mathematics.

Last summer, Jenkins' Foundation launched STEAM., a new innovative pilot program in collaboration with the ExCITe Center at Drexel University, this week, which is a day camp involving 25 children from West Philadelphia.

Summer S.T.E.A.M. was a natural fit for the ExCITe Center. Building off the success of the ExCITe Center's Summer Music Technology program for high school students, Drexel University was pleased when The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation approached them with the idea to offer a new program for middle school age youth. According to Dr. Youngmoo Kim, Director of the ExCITe Center, "The goal of S.T.E.A.M. is to enhance learning by integrating experiences across a wide range of disciplines, from science and math to arts and athletics. We're thrilled to partner with the Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, highlighting the unique trans-disciplinary nature of sports and athletics and extending our efforts to engage younger students."

"It's important that I do these things," Jenkins said. "I want to grow STEAM and all of the charities that we're involved in, but I know you don't do it by just putting your name to something. You have to get involved, and it's why I'm involved. We had a nice turnout for STEAM last year, but I would like to get more kids involved, and with what he had last month and the funds it's attracted, we're going to be able to do that."
