Jerami Grant Raves About Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid have yet to play a basketball game in the NBA.

Nevertheless, those two serve as the pillars of hope for Sixers fans across the Delaware Valley.

Third-year Sixers forward Jerami Grant played in two summer league games in Las Vegas, but more important, was able to spend some time with Simmons and Embiid.

"Joel Embiid is a great person," Grant told 94WIP's Jon Johnson on Thursday night. "Nah, we love him. We love him as a teammate already. He is very energetic in the locker room and we love it. It's in a good way. He's a great, he's a great person."

And Simmons?

"He's a great person to hang out with," Grant said. "He loves hanging out with his new teammates. He loves hanging out with us and I think it'll be an easy fit for us. He's already with us all the time. He's hanging out with us in our hotel rooms and doing whatever with us. So, thus far he's been a great teammate to us and we're trying to bring him in and teach us the ropes."

On the court, Grant talked about the impressive leadership exhibited by the 19-year-old first overall pick already. Simmons averaged 10.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in five summer league games.

"He's definitely vocal," Grant said of Simmons. "He has a lot of basketball awareness. He knows where he needs to be on the court and he knows where he wants people to be, to get the best out of him. He's definitely more of a vocal player on the court. I mean he's a great talent as everybody can see, he's a great play maker. He knows where to get people the ball and I think he's gonna be great at that this season.

"He's a unique talent. He's 6-10, he can dribble the ball, and he's a great play maker as you guys have seen. It's hard to say, it's hard to compare him to anybody. I'll let him do that or I'll let scouts do that."

As for Grant, a 6-8, 210-pound forward, he averaged 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in his two summer league games. A second-round pick of the Sixers in 2014, Grant is trying to make an impact in any way he can.

"One of my strengths is my versatility and being able to play multiple positions," Grant admitted. "I don't want to be locked into one position. Any position that they put me at, I'll be able to thrive at."
