Family And Community React After 92-Year-Old Woman Found Bound And Beaten In Home

EWING TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) -- Police in Ewing Township are increasing patrols in a normally quiet neighborhood and looking for tips after two suspects severely beat a 92-year-old woman during a home invasion.

The incident happened on Manor Drive sometime during Monday night into Tuesday morning. The elderly victim's neighbor called police when she saw the front door open Tuesday morning.

Officers arrived to find her in the basement bound with an electrical cord and suffering from head injuries.

"She sustained a skull fracture and internal bleeding on the brain," said Captain Rocco Maruca.

Police have not provided any descriptions for the two suspects who made off with several items from the house.

Eyewitness News spoke to the victim's daughter who was at her mother's bedside.

She says the woman is in severe pain but she's hopeful her mother will return home and soon and make a full recovery.

Family friend Michael Coryell who owns a tree service company was at the house on Wednesday afternoon sprucing up the yard with his crew. "She's a very nice lady, just like her daughter," says an angry Coryell, "and the terror that poor woman had to feel laying there in the basement...I just can't believe it happened."

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Nick Muscente at 609-882-1313 ext. 7596 or the Ewing Police tip line at 609-882-7530.
