Doug Pederson On Personnel Decisions: 'Have To Rely On Football Guys'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Eagles front-office structure is like a soap opera.

On Tuesday, it was reported the Eagles have suspended their search for a "player personnel head," something that Jeffrey Lurie promised would happen when he introduced Doug Pederson as the team's new head coach on January 19th.

Pederson joined Comcast SportsNet's Philly Sports Talk on Tuesday and talked about the personnel decisions that are being made within the organization. And judging by his comments, it sounds like Pederson wants to have major input.

"I think at the end of the day, you have to rely on the football guys," Pederson said. "You have to rely on the ones that are going to be coaching them every day. You have to rely on the guys that are going to be with them every single day in meetings, on the practice field, on bus rides, on plane trips. Leave it up to the football guys to make those decisions and then you go from there. But I think this is a game of football and leave it up to the guys that can make those decisions and the ones that will be coaching them."

Pederson admits it will ultimately be a collaborative effort between himself, executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman, and the head of the day-to-day player personnel department Tom Donahoe.

"Honestly, I don't think anything is really going to change," Pederson said. "Tom Donahoe is still a big part of the evaluation process, Howie and myself, and our whole personnel staff is still out there evaluating not only the free agents but the college players. And then I rely on my own staff, and the guys that are evaluating these players on a daily basis. And we just come together and make the best possible choices for the Philadelphia Eagles. And at the end of the day, these are our guys and we're going to coach the ones up that we bring into this organization."
