PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) — The second annual Garces Foundation gala takes place on Thursday, October 3rd.

The foundation is run by Dr. Beatriz Garces, a dentist, and her husband, chef Jose Garces, helping the immigrant Hispanic community get medical and dental care.

“Because a lot of our success has to do with their presence here in Philadelphia,” Dr. Garces says.

This year’s gala is being held at the Kimmel Center.

“The Garces Foundation Gala, it is our main fundraising event,” Dr. Garces tells What’s Cooking.  “We’re really excited because we really have selected the best local chefs in town to help us raise money for this wonderful cause.”

Meanwhile, the second annual “Beerfest Royale” takes place on Saturday, October 5th, in King of Prussia.

Eric Goldstein, with the King of Prussia Business Improvement District, says it’s expected to attract about 3,000 people to the King of Prussia Mall parking lot.

“We have two different tents, one featuring international beers and one featuring international craft beers,” he says, “and in between the two tents we have a very large beer garden that we set up.   We bring in landscaping — this is in a parking lot, but it sure doesn’t look like a parking lot when you’re there!”

“We’re working with two roasters right now,” says co-owner April Nett.  “One is from Annapolis, called Ceremony.  The other is from Minneapolis, called Dogwood.  So between the two of those we outfit a full espresso bar with our espresso, called Neon; and then we have a pourover bar.  We offer four single-origin offerings.”
