North Philadelphia Day-Care Owner Indicted In Boy's Death
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The owner of a north Philadelphia day-care center had been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child in the drowning death of a 7-year-old boy last summer.
Prosecutors said Monday that 31-year-old Tianna Edwards is also accused of reckless endangering, welfare fraud, theft and other counts following the June 29 death of 7-year-old Isear Jeffcoat, who was found dead at the bottom of a murky pool he visited with a group from the center (read related story).
Defense attorney Tariq El-Shabazz said Monday that the indictment was expected and there had been much inaccurate information about the case, but the courtroom was the place to clear that up.
