BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) – Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting in Atlantic County Friday evening.

Authorities say a little after 6 p.m. near Route 54 and Weymouth Road in Buena Vista Township, an officer shot Eugenio Morales, the man suspected of slashing a 41-year-old woman in Vineland, Cumberland County (see related story).

The woman suffered lacerations on her face, head, hands and various other parts of her body. Morales had been on the loose since Wednesday, leaving neighbors on edge.

“Everyone was just on edge a little bit, because you didn’t know where he was at. And this isn’t that far from Vineland,” said Tom Monfardini.

Police didn’t have specifics on where Morales was shot, but he was airlifted from Buena Vista to Cooper Medical Center in unknown condition.

He has been charged with Attempted Homicide, weapons and other related offenses.
