Suspect Sought In Violent Machete Attack In Vineland

VINELAND, N.J. (CBS) – Police in Cumberland County are searching for a suspect they say viciously attacked a female with a machete. The victim is in critical condition.

Officers from the Vineland Police Department were called to the area of Sixth and Almond Streets late Wednesday night.

Upon arrival, they found a 41-year-old female with life-threatening injuries to the face, head, body and hands as a result of being attacked with a machete.

The victim is hospitalized and is listed in critical and unstable condition.

Investigators said a firearm was also recovered at the scene.

After investigating the attack, it was determined that 43-year-old Eugenio Morales fled the scene in a black SUV.

The SUV was later found in the area of Jackson Road and Route 54 in Buena Vista Township, Atlantic County.

Morales remains on the loose and is considered armed and extremely dangerous. He has been charged with Attempted Homicide, weapons and other related offenses.

The relationship between Morales and his alleged victim was not immediately disclosed.
